Went to a nice little event this past Sunday here in Okinawa at Kadena Marina. The Black Onyx Pacesetters (Okinawa Chapter) in conjunction with The Kandi Girls were running a charity bike and car wash, with proceeds going to a local Okinawan orphanage. It was a very well run event, with food and refreshments for [...]
I’m now CompTIA Security+ Certified
Another test, another pass, and another IT certification to add to the pile (of one!). Following my CCNA exam success earlier this month (see the certification below I received this week), last Friday I headed down to Naha and took my CompTIA Security+ certification exam. And as you can probably guess from the title of this article, I passed pretty convincingly. Not sure if I’m allowed to state my score (these IT certs have some very secretive terms and conditions), and I don’t want to risk the wrath of anyone, so I’ll just say I didn’t drop many points.
The current test is a little different in composition to the same test from last year, in that it comprises not only of multiple choice questions, but also a number of simulations and questions that test your ability to apply the knowledge you’ve learned in the course. I like that kind of testing a lot, especially with me being a practical-based learner rather than a theory-based one. So although a couple of the questions were tough, it suited me and my final score showed that.
So I now have a networking certification in Cisco CCNA, and an IT security certification in Security+, “What’s next?” I hear you cry. Well, say. Well, possibly just consider for a brief second before moving on. But I’ll put you out of your misery and tell you. The next step is going to be the Windows MCSA/ MCITP certification for Windows 7. This certification basically tells someone that you have a very good knowledge about the installation and use of Windows 7, and then troubleshooting it and providing helpdesk support when things go wrong. I’m thinking that as my next step, as it will give me a rounded network/security/operating system foundation to go from. after that I can think about specializing in one or two particular areas, and I already have some thoughts regarding that.
Well, it’s a beautiful day outside so what better time to be in a darkened room, watching a video about the differences between Windows 7 Home Basic and Windows 7 Home Premium? Hoping to be adding another proverbial feather to my cap in the not too distant future. Until next time, thanks for reading.
